Guillaume Pitron, partner at Psyché 16, shared his insights on BFM Business about the potential consequences of Donald Trump’s election on critical and strategic metals.

According to Pitron, Donald Trump’s next presidency represents more of a continuity than a break in the US strategy to secure the supply of these metals. Since Trump’s first term, the US has become aware of its dependence on China in this regard and has initiated its “mineral diplomacy” to diversify its sources. An approach expected to continue in the coming years.

Pitron also pointed out that President Trump could facilitate the opening of new mines on American soil and perhaps even the mining the seabed to meet domestic demand for rare earths.

Across the Atlantic, the US election is not expected to affect European policy on critical metals: “The ball is in our court when it comes to our strategic mineral sovereignty,” says Pitron.
