Guillaume Pitron warns of potential upcoming copper shortages. Le Monde highlights the crucial role of copper in the upcoming energy transition and the increasing tensions in the global market. Current production levels and new mining efforts are not keeping up with the pace required to meet a demand, expected to rise by 40% by 2040.

In the short term, only temporary imbalances are expected. However, Pitron warns that "insufficient investment could lead to shortages in about 15 years." Despite the urgency of the situation, at least 50% of French industry is not fully aware of the issue. For the rest, "many know about it but have yet to take action," Pitron states.
