Guillaume Pitron, co-founder of Psyché 16, explains that the circular economy will be crucial for meeting our needs for critical metals.

The circular economy will be a key element in meeting our massive demand for metals and minerals essential to the energy transition.

While Europe currently produces only 3% but consumes 22% of the world's metals and minerals, a solution that incorporates the circular economy is therefore deeply needed. The circular economy for metals already exists in France for certain metals like copper and lead, but is nearly non-existent for other critical materials such as rare earths, graphite, germanium, and gallium.

The private sector has stated its position on the issue: "More and more companies are consulting with us, fully aware of the situation, and are looking for secondary raw materials sourced from recyclers," says Guillaume Pitron.
