During Jour E, organized by BPI France, the founders of Psyché 16 ran a masterclass entitled "CRITICAL AND STRATEGIC METALS."
They highlighted the major risks faced by French and European companies trying to secure their metal supplies. They also outlined the strategies these companies can adopt to better secure their value chains.
The discussion first focused on geopolitical risks, starting with China's dominant position in global markets. Economic risks and the high price volatility of metals were also addressed. Finally, the growing importance of ESG and reputational risks, along with the increasing number of regulatory constraints, were discussed.
To address these risks, Laurence Rimbeuf and Guillaume Pitron outlined several strategies for companies to adopt: analyze the degree of exposure of metal procurements, assess supplier risks throughout the value chain, diversify supply sources, develop upstream partnership and investment strategies, dynamically negotiate purchases by rethinking contracts with suppliers, and create crisis management plans. “We will not purchase metals tomorrow like we do today,” emphasized Laurence.
